Hi all. As you can see, I've gone over a year without updating the blog. I do most of my blogging/updates on Facebook now. To see what I'm up to, check me out at www.facebook.com/marcjacobs.

R.I.P. George Carlin

The world lost a comedy legend yesterday. George Carlin died on Sunday at the age of 71. I'm not a guy who admits to having many heroes in his life, but George Carlin was definitely one of mine. George was one of the most creative comedians to ever step on stage. He walked and crossed the line by saying things that most of us think, but are scared to say out loud. He told jokes from how he saw the world, and delivered them in a way like no one else could.

When I was a kid, I used to stay up late at night and sneak into the living room so I could catch George's HBO specials. Yes, I was way too young to be hearing jokes like his (and understanding them), but I'm so glad I did. He was just too funny to miss. From 2nd grade through today, he still makes me laugh uncontrollably. Thanks for all the laughter you brought to the world, George! We will miss you.

Spiderman Cake

Yesterday was my birthday. Yes, I realize that I'm 34 years old now. But I'm still not too old to enjoy a good mint chocolate chip ice cream cake from Baskin-Robbins with Spiderman on top of it. (For those of you who don't know, I've always been a pretty big Spiderman fan for some reason). Needless to say, it was the coolest birthday cake I had ever received.

Backing Southwest Now

Okay!Okay! So I was wrong a while back. A long time ago, I wrote about how bad of an airline United was and how great American is.

First, long time no talk. I haven't posted anything in several months... so, Hello! Second, I've been wrong a lot lately. Not only with my decision on airlines, but in my last post, I said that only Chuck Norris could stop the Patriots. I was way off on that one too.

But back to the airlines... After all the madness that has occurred recently with these flights being canceled due to maintenance inspections, I clearly need to find a new favorite airline. Since I'm moving back to Texas in a matter of days, it only makes sense for me to stick with a Texas-based airline. Therefore I am dropping American as my preferred airline and am now flying Southwest Airlines. Don't get me wrong, it didn't help that American dropped me from Platinum status down to Gold. That's besides the point (sort of). Anyways, it's Southwest from now on (or at least until they screw up). Later!

The Patriots vs. Chuck Norris

Let's just be honest... At this point, the only thing that can stop the New England Patriots from going all the way, is Chuck Norris!

Woohoo!!! Dallas Cowboys will NOT be going to the Super Bowl

All I can say is Thank God for Jessica Simpson, Wade Phillips, and the NY Giants for denying the over-rated Dallas Cowboys to advance in the NFC playoffs this year. Each one of them played just enough of a role to make this happen. Jessica, you and your dad did your job. You temporarily tied on to Romo late in the season. You needed it because your fame status was starting to fall. He wants to be a celebrity more than a quarterback. It was a perfect fit. Now that the season is officially over for the Cowboys, I'm pretty sure your dad will force you to move on to someone more popular.

Wade Phillips. Once again, you decided to mess with the starting line up that got you to the playoffs. Anyone remember the Music City Miracle? Prior to that game, you benched Doug Flutie, a scrappy little quarterback who led the Bills to the playoffs. A few days before their Wild Card game, Phillips benched Flutie for Rob Johnson. We all know how that turned out. This year, you benched Julius Jones for Marion Barber, when Jones was your starting RB all year long. I'm not saying starting Barber was the reason the Cowboys lost, but this is a consistent trend with Phillips. Finally, I have to thank the NY Giants, just for knocking the Cowboys out of contention. I'm not a Giants fan at all, but I was pleased with their work today.

I'm so happy that for the rest of the playoffs, I don't have to see Tony Romo walking up and down the sidelines wearing a baseball hat backwards and sporting that stupid grin that he always has on his face. I hope you enjoyed your vacation to Mexico with Simpson in the middle of the playoffs. Very smart, nice work!

Zoo Lights 2007

Taylor and I went to Zoo Lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo this year. The zoo is across the park from my building, so I'm used to seeing the Christmas lights from 27 floors up. Long story short, we had to go check it out in person to satisfy our curiosity. It was a lot of fun and I highly recommend going to it if you're in Chicago during Christmas time.

Sailing on Lake Michigan

My friends Ted and Lori invited Taylor and I to join them on their sailboat over the weekend. We sailed around Lake Michigan for a while and just enjoyed the scenery. Have to take advantage of this warm Chicago weather while it lasts...

Boston, Fenway, and the No-Hitter

Taylor and I went to Boston for Labor Day weekend this year. The plan was to visit Fenway Park, go to a Sox game, visit Harvard, and anything else we could think of. What we didn't plan on was witnessing history by seeing a no-hitter. What a great trip!

Who's Marc Simpson? You Decide...

I've been fooling around with those "Simpsonize Me" websites, so I can see what I would look like if I were a character on The Simpson's. I tried it on 2 separate sites, and unfortunately they both came back very different looking, so now I'll never know. Which one of these looks more like me?
